Kind of a crazy trade I kinda wanna make…I am a virgin to this fantasy baseball stuff so bear with me… my 1st yr doing this stuff and I’m hooked already.
ok, here’s the situation, I have very little in the ”closer” catagory ( Huston Street and Eric ”Gag Me” Gagne ) , I’m getting killed in the Saves catagory.
I ”friend” is offering JJ Putz a closer ( last yr great , this yr hurt but possibly will be great again ) for my catcher Joe Mauer. I’m sorta liking the idea. Yes I know Joe is good to awesome but I do need a closer badly and Putz could come back strong. The other thing that is helping me like the idea is that I’m lacking in the RBI & HR department as well and I was thinking of picking up catcher Benjie Molina with his 88 RBI’s last year and 19 HRs compared to Joe Mauer’s 60 RBI’s and 7 HR’s in 2007. Although Molina’s Runs total for 2008 is at paltry 9 for the season and rather pathetic next to Joe’s 19 for 2008 , I just don’t tif that matters for me right now. My team is good in the runs department. I can’t seem to pull the trigger here just yet until I get some advise.
What to do what to do? Is this a dumb trade? Do catchers really matter that much? One buddy said catchers are the least important person in the batting lineup.
    Help me out please,
    John

John, I’d love to try to help you out, but I am a bit confused on exactly what you’re asking. I’m going to take a crack at it anyway.

If it is power you’re looking for use the statistic ISOp. Here’s an article I wrote, about statistics you should and shouldn’t pay attention to: http://www.brockforbroglio.com/2008/01/28/7-bits-of-information-you-should-always-ignore/

Hi, simply put, I need a good closer on my fantasy team. Someone offered JJ Putz(closer) to me for Joe Mauer(catcher). Is this a good trade?? If the trade happens I was thinking of picking up Bengie Molina for my NEW catcher. Is this a good trade? Thats all I needed help with. But the article you suggested did help me understand a lot about how to pick em.
    Thanks, John
