150 Top Baseball Blogs (Progressive/Sabermetric)
Posted on February 24th, 2008 by dchase
This list is compiled of the best progressive baseball blogs, and resources.
These resources have been invaluable to me. I’m subscribed to every one of them, and much of the commentary posted here is inspired by their innovative ideas and intellect.
What am I missing?
I came across this site that illustrates the movement on all the different pitch types. Probably the best thing I’ve seen baseball related all winter: http://www.lokeshdhakar.com/2007/09/20/baseball-pitches/
I think you are missing a few sites. For the Rays, I would definitely add DRays Bay and Rays of Light, both of which encourage thoughtful and progressive commentary and are great fun. Rays Anatomy has some excellent discussions as well. I think Bronx Banter is a terrific Yankee site with some of the best writing on the internet. And Peter Abrahams’ LoHud blog is also informative. I am shocked you do not include Joe Posnanski’s blog somewhere. And on the steroids issue, the best stuff I have read anywhere is Eric Walker’s on his blog.
Bob, thanks for the input I”ll add them now. There’s many other great blogs, this is by no means a static/definitive list. I’ll add sites as the commentary comes in. I’ve read fabulous articles at several of the blogs you mentioned. Thanks
Two that I would add are http://www.FantasyBaseballSearch.com and http://www.melnickandgrecofantasysports.com. FBS is a great compendium of all sorts of fantasy info. Melnick does a daily podcast that is a daily necessity and is funny to boot. One more–David Luciani’s Baseball Notebook. His minor league lists are a great example of a “learned minority” and are valuable as a result.
Sorta new on the scene, but check out: http://itsaboutthemoney.blogspot.com for baseball discussion. Yanks fan but not overly homerriffic as others can be (so I think).
THanks
It may be more useful to include your list onto this page:

WasWatching.com is one of the more popular Yankees blogs, as far as I know.
You’re missing Home Run Derby
http://homerderby.com
Good insight and lots of baseball weirdness

Jamey Newberg’s Newberg Report is an excellent Texas Ranger blog: http://www.newbergreport.com/
Chris Needham’s Capitol Punishment is one of the best Nationals’ blogs:
http://dcbb.blogspot.com/
Good thing you got Drays Bay on there. Not sure exactly what you mean by progressive. I did notice your list excludes alot of the good sbnation.com blogs. Thats I good list. I have been trying to capture myself the best site from the blogosphere which I am capturing using feeds:
Blogosphere Feed: http://trophyleague.com/planetrss
http://trophyleague.com/planetrss?group=fantasyfinds
Baseball Podcasts Feed: http://trophyleague.com/planetrss?group=podcasts
I might even create a feed on my site which captures all these sites.

Twenty teams worth of blogs but no Cardinals?
http://www.vivaelbirdos.com/
and
http://futureredbirds.com/
both packed with great “progressive” analysis and a healthy commentor pool
Good new Pirates blog - Hyzdu Headquarters
The best Phillies blog - The Good Phight
Jack Keefe is blogging again
I think We Should Be GM’s is really funny though it doesn’t offer any real analysis. Like a Kissing Suzy Kolber just for the Phillies (and the Pirates maybe once a month).
Replacement Level Yankees is pretty good too. http://replacementlevel.com
Thanks for the shout out!!!
Bleed Cubbie Blue is the best Cub website:
http://www.bleedcubbieblue.com/
I’ll second the recommendation on Viva El Birdos too.
Shameless self-promotion:
http://crashburnalley.com/
The Black (and Gold) Spot - Another good Pirates blog - just as good as Bucs Dugout although not as comprehensive in terms of covering the news
Braves-Nation.com - Braves website, forums. Pretty active and pretty good.
BaseballTalkOnline.com - New baseball blog. Kind of like MLBTR with the news/transacition stuff but mixes in more fantasy baseball than MLBTR.
http://www.ultimatebanter.blogspot.com
Two good Rangers websites:
http://www.mvn.com/mlb-rangers - Baseball Time in Arlington
Lone Star is already listed
http://www.cobrabrigade.com is the best place to get all the Cubs stuff. I’d be willing to match it up to any other Cubs site. Informative and not fanatical.
I’m a co-author of We Should Be GM’s and I’m honored to be on this list. It’s true that we are funny, but I think we pose some intriguing points of view. Sure, we don’t analyze stuff we Sabermetrics and all that jazz, but we do talk baseball, more importantly Phillies baseball.

I’d recommend fantasyhurler.com
I like both MetsBlog and UmpBump, and read them regularly, but I wouldn’t call them “progressive.”
Just off the top of my head, I would recommend Blastings! Thrilledge for the Mets.
Full disclosure: I run Blastings! Thrilledge.
Hey thank you very much for the recognition! It’s a great list and I really enjoy the site!
Thank you very much for declaring me as the top Rays’ blogger. However, living in New York, I was unable to keep up about their youthful organization and began covering the New York Mets. Sorry!
MetsBaseball.Tumblr.Com

Where’s Camden Chat?
Pending Pinstripes (www.mvn.com/milb-yankees) is one of the hidden jewels of Yankee blogs.
The best Royals blog (love Raney but) is Royals Authority
http://mvn.com/mlb-royals/
No love for http://www.sciencefictionbaseball.com ?
The best Dodger blog is Jon Weisman’s “Dodger Thoughts”
http://dodgerthoughts.baseballtoaster.com
I would highly recommend MetsBaseball.Tumblr.Com as a Mets’ blog because it provides in-depth analysis, and most importantly - personal commentary, concerning the New York-based franchise.
thanks for helping make this a far more comprehensive list. I’ll continue to add resources as they come in. To those I haven’t gotten to yet, I’ll take care of them next time I do a major update.

We Should Be GM’s is by far more Phillies oriented than Pirates.
You’re forgetting another one:

I’d like to plug my site if I may:

Mike,
Hasn’t seamheads converted into Baseball Digest Daily?
No we haven’t converted, we integrated. We’re still our own entity, but we are affiliated with Baseball Digest Daily. We’re trying to put as much talent under one roof as possible, while maintaining our own identities.
Thanks!
