Exposing Unlucky Hitters in 2007 with PrOPS
Posted on February 19th, 2008 by dchase
I’m going to use PrOPS developed by JC Bradbury to highlight unlucky batters in 2007 by position. If you want to read more about the nuts and bolts of PrOPS you can here.
All you need to know in this context - is the further “negative” from 0 the more unlucky the batter was last season. Going forward into 2008, the batter’s OPS should be more in line with his PrOPS (Predicted OPS) from last season.

First off, great work thus far on the site. Even though there are many fantasy blogs out there, in a short time, this one as already proven to be a keeper.
Very cool integration of a google doc in this post - makes for easy viewing of the data.
Keep up the great work.

Thanks for the compliment, I’m glad you like the site. I think I’m subscribed to your blog, just haven’t had a chance to really give it a thorough look over yet.
I don’t mind links as long as they’re in context of the discussion. (or behind your user name)
Thanks for understanding.

That’s crazy that Fielder had an “unlucky” season despite the year he had. Great post, dchase!
BTW, do you have a list sorted by highest PrOPS at each position?
yes, you can find props statistics at tht and sort by position.
here you go: http://www.hardballtimes.com/thtstats/main/?view=props
Has anyone ever looked at whether this is really predictive? The first year JCB listed the top lucky and unlucky hitters, I took a look at the end of the year, and was underwhelmed by its ability to predict rebound.
PrOPS is mostly batted ball data summarized. Batted ball data is predictive.
